Barrie D. Soloway, M.D. – Medical Director

Dr. Barrie Soloway is the director and principal investigator for research at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's Vision Correction Center. His outstanding qualifications, results and commitment to his patients have been recognized by American and international ophthalmology and refractive surgery organizations. He has been at the forefront of vision correction research in projects such as his original research with Alcon LADARVision large optical zone treatments as a prevention of night vision problems, ALTK for treating flap complications and the advancement of surface excimer surgery with automated Epi-K ELASIK. As an author of numerous peer reviewed journal articles and surgeon textbook chapters on vision correction methods, he also serves as an editor for the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is frequently an invited speaker at ophthalmology congresses throughout the world.
Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Soloway is a fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Soloway graduated cum laude with a B.A. from New York University and went to medical school at Pennsylvania State University. He completed his ophthalmology training at Long Island College Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Soloway is in practice in Manhattan where he has been helping people in New York, throughout the United States and internationally see better without glasses for over two decades.

John Samples, M.D. – Medical Monitor - Glaucoma

|
John R. Samples M.D. is a glaucoma specialist practicing in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Samples education included undergraduate degrees in psychology and biology from Stanford University, a Masters from Stanford in biology and his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. His residencies include neurology and ophthalmology at the Mayo clinic. He completed several fellowships in cornea, external disease and glaucoma. He joined Oregon Health and Sciences University in 1984 and became professor and director of the glaucoma service in 1994. He presently has a private consultation practice in glaucoma in Portland.
Dr. Samples has been active in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society and the American Society for Cell Biology. He has organized a number of well-known courses in glaucoma and has authored 130 peer reviewed publications as well as numerous book chapters and abstracts. He has authored two texts, one on ophthalmic genetics and one on glaucoma. Three of the known genetic loci for open angle glaucoma were discovered in his practice. He and his wife have created a foundation devoted to treating glaucoma in third world settings and also developing new treatments for glaucoma, the Western Glaucoma Foundation.
