About the Procedure

Prior to the Scleral Spacing Procedure (SSP), you will be given anti-anxiety medicationand numbing drops for your eyes. During the procedure, you will be given medications which further relax you, keep you comfortable, and will cause you to have no memory of it afterward.

As the surgical procedure begins, your doctor will pull back the clear covering over the white of your eye. A ring is then temporarily attached to your eye with light suction, so your doctor is able to move your eye safely and easily during the procedure. Then, a specialized tool is used to create four tiny tunnels in a circular arrangement in the white of your eye in which the implants will be placed.

The PresVIEWTM Scleral Implant (PSI) itself consists of two interlocking pieces of clear plastic, and is roughly the size of a very small grain of rice. One side of the implant is loaded into a device which helps your doctor easily place it in the tunnels. Once this part of the implant is securely in place, this device is removed, and the other side of the implant can be snapped into place.

After the implants have been placed in all four tunnels, the clear covering over the white of your eye is reattached, and the procedure is complete.
